Top 10 Doctors for CABG Surgery in India

CABG, also known as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting, is a type of heart surgery that helps improve blood flow to the heart. It is commonly called “Bypass Surgery or Heart By Pass Surgery.” The surgery is done when the blood vessels, which are called the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart, become narrow or blocked due to fatty deposits known as plaques. This reduces oxygen supply to the heart, which can cause chest pain, shortness of breath, or even a heart attack.

During CABG or Heart Bypass surgery, the doctor takes a healthy blood vessel, usually from the leg, arm, or chest and creates a new route, or bypass, around the blocked arteries. This allows blood to flow freely to the heart again, helping it work properly and reducing symptoms.
Though often CABG is known as Open Heart Surgery, these days the doctors are also using Endoscopic Methods to do the surgery. The Endoscopic Surgery, which is also known as Totally Endoscopic Coronary Artery Bypass, uses minimally invasive techniques to reduce the size of the insertion on the chest and to reduce recovery time from the surgery.

Similarly, these days, the doctors are using Robots to perform CABGs. This is called robotic CABG surgery. In this, the precision increases and the chances of blood loss, etc, reduce.

Why is CABG Required?
CABG is required when the coronary arteries are severely blocked, and medicines or less invasive treatments like angioplasty cannot fix the problem. These blockages can happen due to coronary artery disease (CAD), a condition where fatty substances build up inside the artery walls.

If left untreated, these blockages can lead to:

  • Severe chest pain or discomfort
  • Fatigue and breathlessness during activity
  • Heart failure or heart attack

CABG helps by restoring normal blood flow to the heart muscle, relieving symptoms, improving quality of life, and increasing life expectancy. After the surgery, most patients are able to return to normal activities and live a healthier, more active life.

Who does CABG?
CABG surgery is performed by Cardiac Surgeons, also known as Cardiothoracic Surgeons. These doctors specialise in operations involving the heart, lungs, and major blood vessels.

Performing CABG requires a high level of skill and precision because the heart is a delicate organ, and the surgery is often done using advanced techniques, including beating-heart surgery or minimally invasive methods.

Experienced cardiac surgeons, who regularly perform bypass surgeries, are best suited to handle such complex procedures and guide the patient safely through surgery and recovery.
