If you or your loved one is planning a kidney transplant in India, you’re not alone. Many patients from different countries choose India every year because of experienced doctors, advanced hospitals, and affordable treatment.

That said, the process comes with a few important steps. Don’t worry, it may look like a lot at first, but once you understand it, it becomes much easier to manage.

First Things First: You Need a Donor

The most important requirement is that the patient must come with a donor. Hospitals in India do not provide donors.

The donor should be someone from your close family, such as:

  • Mother or father
  • Brother or sister
  • Son or daughter
  • Husband or wife
  • Uncle or aunt (maternal or paternal)
  • First cousin

Proving Your Relationship

To make sure everything is legal and transparent, you’ll need to show proof of your relationship with the donor. This usually includes:

  • An affidavit from the donor
  • An affidavit from the patient
  • A family photograph (older ones with dates are helpful)
  • A DNA test to confirm the relationship

All affidavits must be signed and attested by a government officer (Superintendent of Police or above).

If the donor is your spouse:

  • A valid marriage certificate is required
  • Wedding photos can also help support your case
